Merchant Victorian Homes is bringing to the marketplace another architectural style found in the United States in the late 1800's. Not as well known as Victorian architecture the Shaker style architecture was nonetheless uniquely American.
The Shakers, better known for their furniture rather than their Building designs, borrowed ideas from the Colonial style "World" around them. And like their furniture, Shaker designed buildings are set apart by their uniformity and neatness. For three generations these villages have been known for their quality and appearance.
We plan to use the Shaker style builders of Kentucky and upstate New York as models. Just as town-like and railroad locations were best suited for our ornate and artistic Victorians we're studying several east end locations to replicate the early farming areas that surrounded the simple and elegant Shaker communities.
Gambrel roofs, interior windows, walls of built-ins, splendid arches, rounded roofs and attics, will characterize homes that will follow the form of buildings know as "the Stone Shop" and the "Schoolhouse". Post and Beam construction will be integrated into conventional framing in raising a "Meetinghouse building". A single family home in this subdivision will mirror the original design of "the Syrup shop", built into a setting that will take on the appearance of a Shaker village. Here you'll find homes configured like the "Dairy and weave shop" or the well know "round stone barn" with turned rails, wrought iron and natural wood finishes using thin translucent stains similiar to those formulated by these remarkable builders.
